James F. Dawson

President 1992-1993

James F. Dawson, C.B.C.
President, Dawson Marketing Group

A successful professional with Fortune 500 and INC. 500 experience, Jim is an accomplished marketer skilled at developing business strategies, brand messages and comprehensive programs that utilize an “integrated approach” to deliver key messages to customers and prospects. He is a proven leader having directed communications for a $1 billion international firm, managed a staff of 20 and handled budgets in excess of $12 million.

On the corporate side, Jim worked in marketing positions with both DuPont and The Kendall Company, a $1 billion subsidiary of Colgate Palmolive. After a leveraged buyout at Kendall, he was engaged by a former division of Colgate to initiate marketing and branding programs to launch a new, independent corporation.

In founding his marketing agency, Jim focused on creating communications that resonated with the customers that clients wanted versus the ones they did not. His firm utilized a proprietary research technique developed by a former research director at McKinsey & Company and the Boston Consulting Group to help drive creative messaging and execution. Agency clients have included: Anheuser Busch, General Motors, Shell Texaco, Hyundai, Boston Museum of Science, Verizon, World Trade Center Boston, Harvard Medical School, Robotic Vision Systems, Glassbook Software, Boston University Dental School, State Street Bank, Spaulding & Slye, Nortel Networks and Clarion/ING Real Estate.

Organizations including the New England Direct Marketing Association, the Medical Marketing Association and the Health Care Exhibitors Association have recognized programs he developed with various awards. Publications such as Marketing News, Exhibitor Magazine, Sales and Marketing Magazine and Crain’s New York Business Daily have featured articles pertaining to campaigns he created. The International Exhibitors Association recognized a trade show program he created with the Most Remembered Exhibit of the Year Award, and the Public Relations Society of America and Retail Merchants Association in New Orleans awarded him the Best Promotion of the Year Award.

A journalism graduate of Northeastern University, Jim interned at the Boston Globe. He later earned a Certified Business Communicator (CBC) designation from the Business Marketing Association, a masters-level certification achieved by less than 5% of professionals nationwide.

Jim is active in civic and professional groups having been president of the American Marketing Association (AMA), the Business Marketing Association and Chairman of the Trade Show Exhibitors Association for New England. He is a Marketing Co-Chair for Sales & Marketing Executives, and Executive Vice President, Fort Worth Development for the AMA in Dallas-Fort Worth. He has also participated on Marketing Advisory Boards for Dimock Community Health Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Central Massachusetts Association for Retarded Citizens (CMARC).
