SUMMARY:AMA Boston Music Marketing Panel
DESCRIPTION:Music Marketing Industry Marketing\n\n\n\n\nThe event will bring together marketing professionals\, creatives\, and industry leaders to explore how music marketing has evolved in recent years—particularly the shift from traditional record-label models to a landscape in which artists increasingly operate as their own brands and companies —and what this transformation means for other industries and how they can relate. \nThe discussion will focus on topics such as: \n\nThe transition from label-driven marketing to artist-led brand building\nHow musicians function as independent businesses and media companies\nDigital\, community-driven\, and data-informed marketing strategies in music\nKey lessons that non-music brands and marketers can learn from today’s music industry\n\nFormat: In-person (and virtual option) panel discussion with Q&A \nSpeakers: \nNina Webb \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNina Webb is an award-winning music marketing strategist with over 25 years of experience building artist brands and global campaigns. She served as Head of Marketing at Atlantic Records and held senior roles at Columbia Records\, working closely with artists and teams to develop strategies that evolve alongside both the artist and their art—brands and products that shift as quickly as fan tastes. \nThe music industry often experiences technological disruption\, as youth audiences rapidly adopt new behavior to discover and consume content. Navigating this constant evolution\, across both creative output and consumer behavior\, places music marketing at the forefront of understanding how to build honest and lasting connections. \nToday\, Nina’s work sits at the intersection of industry and education. She consults with brands on music- and culture-informed marketing strategy and teaches applied marketing at the university level\, translating brand development principles into real-world execution. She is also a frequent guest speaker at institutions including Boston College\, Harvard University’s Music Club\, and the University of New Hampshire\, helping students navigate and understand the evolving music industry. \n\n\n\n\nEmi Mcswain \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEmi McSwain is a singer-songwriter and content creator in Boston\, Massachusetts. After receiving her songwriting degree from Berklee College of Music in 2022\, she took to Instagram to showcase Boston’s hidden gems and highlight the city’s music scene\, growing her following to over 38k. She’s worked tirelessly to bridge the gap between Boston residents and the city’s independent music scene. Her mission is to make music more accessible and easier to find for those who want to support it. \n\n\n\n\nJeff Porter \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJeff Porter\, is like a carpenter in the hip hop world\, he is an emcee who skillfully builds his music with the precision and craftsmanship of a seasoned artisan. His dedication to the boom bap and golden era style of hip-hop sets him apart in a landscape where trends often overshadow authenticity. Jeff’s music is deeply rooted in the foundational elements of hip-hop\, drawing inspiration from the genre’s pioneers while infusing his own unique flavor. \nHis boom bap beats are raw and unfiltered\, reminiscent of the 90s era that many consider the golden age of hip-hop. Jeff is creating a soundscape that instantly transports listeners back to the true form of where hip-hop was born. Jeff’s lyrical style complements this classic sound\, with verses that are both sharp and reflective\, embodying the essence of true hip-hop storytelling. \nJeff Porter’s EP with David Ryan is a masterful collaboration\, where the synergy between the two artists creates a dynamic 1-2 punch combo that hits hard with every track. Their seamless connection brings out the best in each other\, resulting in an EP that not only showcases their individual talents but also amplifies their strengths as a duo. The production is sharp\, the lyrics are impactful\, and the overall vibe is smooth yet powerful\, making this EP a standout project. It’s the kind of hip-hop that resonates deeply\, with each track contributing to a cohesive\, timeless body of work. The chemistry between Jeff Porter and David Ryan elevates the EP to classic status\, a must-listen for any hip-hop aficionado. \nWhat makes Jeff Porter stand out is his unwavering commitment to preserving the original vibe of hip-hop. In an era where many artists chase after the next big trend\, Jeff remains steadfast in his approach\, staying true to the culture’s roots. His music isn’t just a throwback; it’s a continuation of a legacy\, a testament to the enduring power of hip-hop’s golden era. Whether he’s crafting verses or laying down beats\, Jeff Porter ensures that every track he produces is a nod to the past while still resonating with today’s audience\, making him a true guardian of the culture. \n\n\n\n\nPlatinum Sponsor: \nWe extend our sincere gratitude to our Platinum Sponsor\, Brick Marketing\, for their generous sponsorship. SUMMARY:Virtual Fireside Chat: Lost in Translation? How to Keep Your Brand Human
DESCRIPTION:Lost in Translation? How to Keep Your Brand Human in the Age of AI\nSpeaker: Rob Volpe\, CEO and Founder\, Empathy Activist LLC\n\n\nThere’s a critical gap between artificial and human intelligence. The piece of the puzzle that fits that gap is something everyone is born with the capability to use: empathy. When deployed effectively\, empathy can strengthen the quality and impact of marketing programs and increase customer loyalty. This presentation will show you how to speak the language of your consumers\, even when using AI\, to engage customers empathetically to drive business results. \nAccording to recent studies\, empathy increases advertising effectiveness by 23%; it can yield an incremental 10% in sales; 90% of consumers expect brands to display empathy with them through the brand’s messaging while 97% of customers say empathy is the most important element in customer engagement. Because empathy is seen as a soft skill\, we ignore this superpower and driver of business results\, turning to AI to craft strategy\, campaign messaging\, even communications. \nUsing real-world examples\, Rob will demystify empathy and clear up the misconceptions of empathy and AI which can lead to mistakes in marketing strategy and messaging. The talk will explore the “5 Steps to Empathy” which can generate authentic connections to all the people who touch a brand –from customers to consumers to employees – leading to greater marketing effectiveness and improved business results. \nAttendees will learn: \n\nHow the use of empathy is a strength in marketing and branding\nHow to overcome common barriers to being empathetic with customer segments\n\nPractical application tips and examples for using AI and empathy in marketing \nMeet Your Speaker\n\n\nRob Volpe\, CEO and Founder\, Empathy Activist\, LLC \nRob Volpe is an astute observer of life and a master storyteller who brings empathy and compassion to the human experience. SUMMARY:Leadership Starts Before the Title
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\n\nHow to Develop Your Voice\, Values\, and Influence Early in Your Career A Fireside Chat with Todd Holloway\, Founder of Avalon Digital Partners \n\n\n\n\nLeadership doesn’t begin when someone gives you a title. \nLong before we become managers\, directors\, or executives\, we’re already developing the habits\, values\, and assumptions that shape how we work with other people. We learn from the leaders we admire\, the ones we struggle with\, the mentors who invest in us\, the mistakes we make\, and the difficult moments that test what kind of colleague—and eventually what kind of leader—we want to be. \nJoin AMA Boston for a candid fireside conversation with Todd Holloway\, founder and president of Avalon Digital Partners\, exploring how intentional leaders are made. \nDrawing on more than three decades of experience across marketing\, technology\, organizational transformation\, and leadership—as well as 12 years of service in the United States Army—Todd will share lessons from a career spent building teams\, developing people\, navigating change\, and helping organizations turn ambitious ideas into results. \nThe conversation will explore questions including: \n\nWhich leadership lessons do we inherit\, and which should we leave behind?\nHow do you adapt your leadership to the individual in front of you?\nWhat does it take to build a team people genuinely want to be part of?\nHow do strong leaders respond when circumstances become difficult?\nAnd ultimately\, what do we leave behind in the people we have had the opportunity to lead?\n\nThis won’t be a lecture about becoming “the boss.” It’s a conversation about developing your own approach to leadership—wherever you are in your career. \nA significant portion of the event will be devoted to audience Q&A\, giving attendees the opportunity to bring their own leadership questions\, experiences\, and challenges into the conversation. \nWhether you’re leading a team today\, preparing for your first management role\, mentoring others\, or simply thinking more intentionally about the kind of leader you hope to become\, you’ll leave with ideas you can begin applying long before the next title appears on your résumé. \nAbout the Speaker \nAs the founder and president of Avalon Digital Partners\, Todd has led more than 100 marketing and digital transformation engagements for organizations including Disney\, Sony Pictures\, Best Buy\, Amgen\, John Hancock\, Point32Health\, and Beth Israel Lahey Health. Throughout his career\, he has helped marketing leaders navigate successive waves of change—from the early growth of digital channels and marketing technology to today’s rapid adoption of emerging technologies. \nHis work has involved more than developing strategies or implementing platforms. It has included building teams\, aligning people around a common direction\, developing future leaders\, and creating organizations capable of turning ambitious marketing ideas into measurable results. \nTodd’s leadership perspective has also been shaped by 12 years of service in the United States Army\, where he learned important lessons about preparation\, accountability\, trust\, and leading people through high-pressure situations. \nA former AMA Boston vice president of technology\, Todd now writes regularly about the leadership lessons we inherit\, practice\, and eventually pass on. \n\n\n\n\nPlatinum Sponsor: \nWe extend our sincere gratitude to our Platinum Sponsor\, Brick Marketing\, for their generous sponsorship. SUMMARY:AMA Boston: AI in Marketing: Beyond the Hype\, Into Practice
DESCRIPTION:AI is everywhere\, but the real value comes when we move beyond the hype and into practical application. \n\n\n\n\nAI is everywhere in marketing conversations. But beyond the headlines\, new tools\, and endless predictions\, one question matters most: What does AI actually mean for the way marketers work today? \nJoin AMA Boston and Brick Marketing on November 4 for AI in Marketing: Beyond the Hype\, Into Practice\, a thought-leadership event bringing together academic insight and real-world marketing experience. \nBoston is uniquely positioned at the intersection of research\, technology\, and business. This event will tap into that ecosystem to explore how AI is already influencing marketing strategy\, customer insights\, content creation\, personalization\, advertising\, responsible innovation\, and brand trust. \nRather than another broad discussion about the promise of AI\, speakers will focus on specific ideas\, observations\, and applications marketers can put into context for their own organizations. \nEach speaker will deliver a focused 7–10 minute talk sharing a distinct perspective on AI and marketing. The talks will be followed by a moderated roundtable discussion connecting the ideas\, examining where research and practice align—or diverge—and translating the conversation into practical takeaways. \nAttendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how AI is reshaping marketing\, a more balanced perspective on both its opportunities and challenges\, and practical ideas they can begin applying in their own work. \nThis event is designed for marketing leaders\, agency professionals\, product marketers\, founders\, students\, AI-curious practitioners\, and anyone trying to make thoughtful decisions about how AI fits into modern marketing. \nPresented by AMA Boston and sponsored by Brick Marketing. \nSpeakers: \nJeff Taylor : Founder/CEO\, Boomband/Monster.com \nJeff Taylor is a visionary entrepreneur with 30+ years revolutionizing talent marketplaces. Now\, Jeff is launching Boomband\, an AI-powered talent marketplace designed to challenge hiring’s status quo. By replacing traditional resumes with dynamic Dossiers and creating a more transparent way for candidates and employers to discover each other\, Boomband celebrates the whole person—highlighting the life experiences and “boom moments” that shape character and transferable skills. \nJeff also served as Creative Leader at Bridgewater Associates under Ray Dalio\, designing firm-wide recruiting systems and contributing to the launch of Principles. Jeff holds a BA in Human Resource Management/Communications from UMass Amherst and an Executive Certificate (OPM) from Harvard Business School. Outside business -Jeff founded Root Society (a 250-volunteer Burning Man theme camp hosting shows for more than 10\,000 attendees)\, led a historic gravestone preservation project\, and is an award-winning Land Rover Defender restorer.
